Plagiarism and Similarity Policy

The Journal of Aesthetic Surgery is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity. All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and similarity prior to peer review and publication. The journal adheres to international ethical standards and the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Screening Process

All submissions are subject to similarity detection screening using recognized plagiarism detection software (e.g., iThenticate or equivalent tools). Screening is conducted before the manuscript is sent for peer review.

Similarity Threshold

  • A similarity index above 20% may trigger further editorial assessment.
  • Single-source similarity above 5% may require clarification or revision.
  • Acceptable similarity may include references, methodological descriptions, or standard terminology.

Similarity scores are evaluated in context. Editorial decisions are not based solely on percentage values but on qualitative assessment of overlap.

Types of Plagiarism

  • Direct copying without citation
  • Paraphrasing without proper attribution
  • Self-plagiarism or redundant publication
  • Duplicate submission to multiple journals
  • Unattributed translation of previously published work

AI-Generated Content

The use of artificial intelligence tools to generate fabricated text, data, images, or references constitutes academic misconduct. All AI-assisted content must comply with the journal’s AI Policy and remain fully verified by the authors.

Actions in Cases of Suspected Plagiarism

  • Minor overlap may result in a request for revision.
  • Substantial overlap may result in rejection.
  • Confirmed plagiarism after publication may lead to correction or retraction.
  • Serious cases may be reported to the authors’ institutions.

Author Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work is original and properly cited. Submission to the Journal of Aesthetic Surgery implies that the manuscript has not been previously published and is not under consideration elsewhere.
